The power of the great bear trail. The recent blizzard in the northeast left me with some old fashioned snow clearing to do. After clearing a walk way and driveway, I returned later to salt the patches of ice. About the time I made it to the sidewalk of the my suburban neighborhood my attention was drawn to my neighbor across the way struggling to get his suv over a patch of frozen tundra. I then turned away and continued on down towards my open garage door. I quietly thought to myself “ mind your own business, this guy will figure it out, you have your own pressing matters to attend to.” By the time I was inside the garage with my finger on the garage door button I paused. A faint thought bubbled up, it was Big Bear saying “ ... get to know your neighbors...” I decided to turn right around and walked up to my neighbor and asked “hey man, could you use a hand” to which he replied “actually, ha, yeah”. Suddenly we were solving a problem together, went in and got my trusty survival axe and we crushed that snow ice mountain. At the end of it I made a new friend, Juan. He said “anytime you need anything let me know” we shook hands and went on with our days. That’s all it took and I went from an isolated home in the suburbs to having the start of a community. No politics, no class this or that, just a drive to crush, to help, to know thy neighbor. Cheers to #beartaria
