Kalo, known as Taro to others, is perhaps the most sacred plant in the islands of Hawaii. It is believed to be an ancestor of the Hawaiian people. It's corm (swollen stem base) is mashed into a delicious purple treat called Poi. The oha (little corms that form around the mother) lead to the phrase Ohana (many oha). That's why Ohana means family.
