Story time, Community is Wealth edition #2. Several months back, when @deletedmember was still pregnant, we went to a plant sale in a neighborhood just a few minutes from ours. It was an old couple, with a garden that spanned their entire property (1+ acre of solid garden). It was like something out of a dream: dozens of Japanese maple varieties, hundreds of different daffodils, balms and herbs 6 feet tall, fountains and sitting areas, and so on. We bought a few things, and had a feeling that they were special. So we went back, and gave them a ton of seeds (any north Georgia bear from recent meetups knows that I have a seed collection that’s a little out of hand); they, in turn, gave us a bunch of plants, including some native Jack-in-the-Pulpit specimens. Here we are now, back from a visit that was supposed to be for an hour or so, turned into four. They got to meet our son, Jonas, and we can’t wait to see them again. We gave them more seeds and tomatoes, and they cut several herbs from the garden to propagate, and gave us several bags of produce, shown here (the walking onions, we are really excited about those). We’ve made some new friends, and we can’t wait to see where this new relationship with God-fearing people will lead. Community is wealth, and knowing your neighbors is easier than you think. You can start a great relationship with something as simple as a small bag of seeds, or a little basil plant as a gift. Onward, to Beartaria.
